Joe Vandenberg and Ashley Holtquist, Founders of Sage & Cedar Herbal Tea Company in Spearfish, initiated a creative collaboration with BHACF to support their community.
Sage & Cedar Herbal Tea Company is giving back to the Northern Hills community with “GenerosiTEA,” a signature tea crafted in partnership with the Black Hills Area Community Foundation (BHACF). Each pouch purchased sends a donation to a community nonprofit.
Until the end of August, purchases will support Beautify Spearfish’s work organizing litter cleanups in the community. “We have followed their work over the years and would love to be part of supporting their mission,” said Ashley Holtquist, herbalist, artist, and medicine maker at Sage & Cedar.

For Holtquist, partnering with BHACF was a natural fit. The collaboration, which marks BHACF’s 20th Anniversary, is one of several ways the Foundation is giving back to local communities this year. Since 2006, BHACF has partnered with community members to invest more than $75 million in the Black Hills region.
“We have a long history of working with values-driven individuals to support the communities they love. Not only is GenerosiTEA delicious, but it also invests in the Black Hills. We hope this partnership will inspire more people to strengthen their home communities through giving.”
CHRIS HUBER, PRESIDENT & CEO AT BHACF
The tea leaves gathered for the blend were hand-picked from centuries-old bushes and processed by a community living at the base of the Himalayas. “This product supports a new model of tea growing rooted in shared ownership, regenerative agriculture, and community leadership. This partnership supports our Black Hills community while also uplifting the community that grows these plants,” Holtquist said.
A 50-gram pouch of the naturally caffeinated loose-leaf tea contains 20 servings. The pouch costs $16, with 20% of each purchase going to Beautify Spearfish. The tea blends high-quality ginger root, peach, chamomile, vanilla bean and white tea.
The GenerosiTEA blend will always support the Black Hills community. After the first donation to Beautify Spearfish, Sage & Cedar will support a different Black Hills nonprofit to “spread the love across the Black Hills region,” Holtquist explained.
Customers can purchase a pouch from Sage & Cedar’s new storefront location at 211 North Main Street, Suite 207, in Spearfish. The tea is also available online at www.sagecedarherbalteas.com.
