The Deerfield Scholarship

The scholarship supports graduating seniors from Hill City High School.

Overview: 

The Deerfield Scholarship is part of Mike Sawyer’s perpetual legacy. When he passed away, he left an endowment with the Black Hills Area Community Foundation to provide scholarships to graduating seniors from Hill City High School. 

The opportunity provides $1,500 each year, renewable for up to 4 years. 

Eligibility criteria: 

1) Current high school senior at Hill City High School in Hill City, SD

2) Anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application

3) Planning to pursue a 2- or 4-year degree at an accredited post-secondary institution

About the The Deerfield Scholarship

Mike Sawyer of Deerfield, SD was a beloved neighbor, friend, and veteran. He was the kind of person who would help anyone who needed a hand and was a true friend and gentleman to all who crossed his path. He was a caring man and was always checking in on those who might need a little help or a kind word. Mike Sawyer passed away on August 27, 2018, leaving a legacy that will not be easily forgotten. In every essence of Mike’s life, he was always thinking of giving back. This is evidenced by the fact that he left an endowment with the Black Hills Area Community Foundation with the sole purpose of providing scholarships to Hill City High School students.
